URC Weekly 5/29/2011: God Heard Us
Hello Church!
Yesterday morning, two of our church family members – Chris and Eunice’s grandparents – were involved in a big car accident right before our service. They were trying to make a left from a main sanctuary side exit to come into our side when they got hit by a speeding car traveling north on Lark Ellen Avenue. They were hit so hard that their older model Nissan Pathfinder flipped over. Six police cars were there along with a couple of large fire trucks. A life of jaw was used to rescue them out from the car. It really was a scary scene, especially because of their elderly age.
We prayed together for their healing before service in a circle. Some of us were moved enough to shed tears during worship. We took more time to pray for them before the sermon. We asked everyone to pray for them individually during the announcements.
Well, God heard us! I was told just now that the grandmother was released from the hospital yesterday pretty much unhurt. The status of the grandfather is not as certain. But he regained consciousness (he was knocked out at the impact of the hit) at the hospital while waiting to take X-rays and had no apparent bleeding.
Two verses come to my mind:
1. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).
2. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done by my Father in heaven (Matthew 18:19).
Praise God. Isn’t God so good? I believe God is showing us that we are His beloved people through this accident. Let’s continue to seek God together.
