Hi Family,
I was watching an ice hockey game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins on this past Sunday afternoon with Mike and James Kim. Although I usually prefer being entertained with football or basketball, I was quickly engaged in the game as we discussed how nifty the players can move on ice. These guys move at full speeds on skates tackling each other, hitting pucks that you can barely follow with your eyes, and even fight until one goes down. If you are not impressed with the skillfulness of them then just think about the very last time you went ice skating.
Our conversation then moved on to soccer players and how they can control the ball so much better than any one of us can with our hands. Then it all clicked to me.
It is definitely easier for anybody to run and tackle on a field than on ice. It is certainly easier for anybody to handle a ball using hands than feet. Yet these players are able to display great athleticism even in these adverse environments.
This is similar to our spiritual walk with God. Many of us are often placed in a situation that is seemingly unfavorable to becoming more Godly: we have to work long hours, go to school full time, deal with relationship problems, and etc. Sometimes, things get so bad that the only rational option is to blame God for the lot in life that He gave us.
Yet there is hope, no matter the situation. Apostle Paul says, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength (Phil 4:13).” Absolutely. The good thing is that we are never to go through any hardship alone. We have the Holy Spirit and the community of saints in our beloved URC. So I bless you church in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that you may enjoy the presence of and be edified by the URC brothers and sisters, no matter the situation.
