URC Weekly 1/23/2011: And the winner of the Super Bowl XLV is…

Hello family!

The NFL playoffs are nearing the end, as the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have both earned their rights to play each other in this year’s Super Bowl. Many people all over the country are very excited to see these two storied franchises compete for the game’s biggest prize.

All these athletes are trying to do really, is to be remembered. We remember champions. Nobody remembers losers. Second place is first place loser they say.

Speaking of remembering, today I ran into a tribute to Glenn Barker, a professor at my school in the 70s. The following is what the tributary says:

Glenn Wesley Barker

June 10, 1920 to May 1, 1984

Dean, School of Theology 1972-1977 •  Provost 1977-1984.

—————————————————————————–

More than a theologian – a Christian

More than a teacher – a Pastor

More than a scholar – a Friend.

Above all, a servant of God.

—————————————————————————–

This is how we knew him –

This is how we’ll remember him –

A true disciple.

This is the way that people remember Glenn Barker. The Packers and the Steelers both want to be remembered as champions.  How do you want to be remembered? How would you need to live in order to be remembered that way?
