Hi Church,
When I was a social worker in inner city Chicago, we had this one town hall meeting, open to all residents of a particular poverty-stricken neighborhood. The city was trying to randomly relocate these families to other parts of the city, while their neighborhood would be destroyed and remade into a wealthier place for the middle class. The residents were full of sorrow and anger, as they expressed what it means to have their homes taken over by people who never lived there, and after they shared so many innovative ideas and relevant points, I was filled with hope that we could win this struggle against the city (and improve, rather than destroy/rebuild). That was the investment of a people for their neighborhood, and as we have our Annual Meeting this Sunday, I pray we have the same heart for our ministry.
This Sunday we’ll have our Annual Meeting, and URC will unveil it’s 2011 vision, leadership, plans, and budget. This can be like a business presentation, with people simply listening and agreeing, but I hope it’s more of a town hall meeting, where we’re giving our own input because the issue at hand is the welfare of our God-given ministry…
1) ANNUAL MEETING: THIS SUNDAY AFTER WORSHIP SERVICE. Please pray for sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, as we aggressively advance God’s kingdom through our church. Pray for Hyonroh, who will be leading it, as well as our congregation, so it’ll be a truly collective effort.
2) PRAYER MEETING: THIS THURSDAY @ 7:30. Our last of the year. Last time, we had six people and received many visions from the Lord. This time, let’s have even more and pray in reflection of 2010 and progression toward 2011.
3) WINTER RETREAT FEES DUE: $100 THIS SUNDAY TO WON. Our retreat is a week from Sunday! If you haven’t done so already, please sign up and pay by this Sunday. If you can’t afford the cost, we’d hate for that to be the reason you might not go. Please talk to Won if that’s the case.
4) CHRISTMAS PRESENTATION PRACTICE: THIS SUNDAY AFTER LUNCH. We weren’t able to practice last week, so we’re gonna simplify and go with carols (cut out the movie). Everyone, please make time to stay this Sunday afternoon to practice.
5) PRAISE BIBLE STUDY: THIS SUNDAY DURING LUNCH.
6) CHRISTMAS PARTY: A WEEK FROM SATURDAY @ 5 PM @ JAMES XT KIM’S HOUSE. Last year was an incredible feast and a lot of fun @ James’ house. It’ll be a potluck, and let’s bring something a little extra special to eat. Also, bring a wrapped $15-20 gift if you’d like to play the gift exchange game.
7) SAVE THE DATE: YUN-SOO’S 1ST BIRTHDAY PARTY ON THURSDAY, 12/30 @ 6 PM @ DRAGON RESTAURANT IN K-TOWN. Same place as Han-Soo’s four years ago. Please come hungry!
8 ) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Sarah Kwon
9) DEVOTIONS: Amos 2-7. From Amos 5, about oppression of the weak:
11 You trample on the poor
and force him to give you grain.
Therefore, though you have built stone mansions,
you will not live in them;
though you have planted lush vineyards,
you will not drink their wine.
12 For I know how many are your offenses
and how great your sins.
You oppress the righteous and take bribes
and you deprive the poor of justice in the courts.
13 Therefore the prudent man keeps quiet in such times,
for the times are evil.

The Lord bless you and keep you until we meet this week!
