URC Weekly 10/3/10: Jesus and Buddha

Hi Family,

On Saturday, we went 0-2 in the V-Ball tourney and didn’t make the playoffs.  Still, we lost the first match, against last year’s champion, by one point in the first game, and two points in the second.  Our girls and Commander were awesome, with literally 1% of our errors, and the fellas will step it up next year… Now that V-Ball isn’t dominating our Sunday afternoons anymore, time to focus on other things:

1) V-BALL: THIS SUNDAY @ 2 PM @ PALMDALE PARK.  Ahahahahha, like Marlon Brando (the Godfather) said, “I try to get out, but they keep pulling me back in!”  Pastor Joshua asked if we’d play V-Ball with the Youth, since they’re itching for more activities these days.  I think we’ll probably make it a Sports Sunday, with flag football, basketball, and everything else under the sun.  No pressure, just have fun and teach the Youth how to play.  Bring your sports gear.

2) COMMUNITY GROUP: THIS FRIDAY @ 7 PM @ MIKE/JANE’S.  This will be our final study on witnessing to people of other religions, and Tae will teach on sharing with Buddhists.  Let’s feast and learn.

3) PRAISE BIBLE STUDY: THIS SUNDAY @ 1 PM.  Last month, we emphasized sharing with and praying for one another.  Please make it a point of focus as y’all practice and lead worship.

4) MORe XI REVIVAL: A WEEK FROM SATURDAY (10/16) @ 5 PM @ SUNGLIM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (970 N Virgil Ave., Los Angeles, 90029).  I know many Youth Groups in our denomination are in need of encouragement and prayer, including ours.  URC, let’s prepare these two weeks in prayer and be ready to reconnect and minister to the Youth at the revival.  Some churches that weren’t at the retreat will come, so there will be a chance to bring more into the fellowship.  Please pray for me, as I’ll be preaching, that I may be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and above all else, be humble before the Lord and His people.

5) ACCOUNTABILITY GROUPS: Fellas, remember to pray for and encourage one another this week.  Ladies, may the Lord bring you close to one another and to Him at the same time.

6) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Won Lee

7) DEVOTIONS: Ezekiel 25-30.  These six chapters are God’s judgment on the nations that oppressed Israel, and there’s comfort in knowing that He has our back.  At the end of almost every section is the same sentence, “Then they will know that I am the LORD.”  It’s a reminder that through justice, as well as grace, God will always claim His place on the throne.  Let’s be faithful this week, that we may know Him through His grace more than His justice…
