Hi Y’all,
Trouble surrounding you? Danger at every turn? Villians doing dastardly deeds? Don’t worry, these guys will save the day (somewhere in the background is also Snow White, in case the fellas can’t get the job done)! Between Yoda’s random train toys in his hand and Robin’s inability to see with his mask on, the citizens of West Covina are safe on the streets. They only ask that we keep them entertained on Sunday…
1) HOLYWEEN: THIS SUNDAY FROM 1:30-2:30 PM @ CHURCH. From Angela to our Holyween Crew (Hyunjoo, Jacob, Ludia, Jane): “Prepare 3 games for our kids to play (PREPARE BEFORE SUNDAY, AND BRING NECESSARY MATERIALS). Our program will only be for an hour, so they just need to be simple. Just make sure that they are age appropriate. Also, the program will involve a Bible story, crafts, a costume contest and handing out of goodie bags. If you guys can stay for the hour to help out, that would be great.”
IF THE REST OF Y’ALL ARE AVAILABLE, PLEASE COME OUT!
2) WNF: THIS WEDNESDAY (not Thursday!) @ 7 PM @ COCONUT BAY (18922 Gale Avenue,Rowland Heights, 91748). From John: “Lots of TV’s for the game, plus it’s pretty big and not as hectic as Banana Bay.” We could catch the tail end of World Series, game 1, and maybe Heat/Sixers?
3) FREE SCREENING OF “CHOSIN”: THIS SUNDAY @ 3 PM @ CGV CINEMAS (621 S. Western Ave., Los Angeles). The first documentary ever to be released by a US Marine about the battle of the Chosin Reservoir.
From the facebook event page (BTW, if you’re wondering, yes, I will quote someone for every announcement): “The documentary is a collection of interviews of war veterans that fought in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. The battle of the Chosin Reservoir is a story of 12,000 U.S. Marines and soldiers, known today as “The Chosin Few,” who faced deadly sub-zero temperatures, while outnumbered by 120,000 Chinese troops behind enemy lines in a battle for the soul of a nation. Due to their efforts, they were able to rescue 100,000 refugees and evacuate them at Hungnam Harbor. Q & A with director after the screening.”
I’m not sure how they accommodate if too many people show up, or how tix work, so buyer beware. Also, if we ever change our name from URC, I’m casting my vote now for “The Chosin Few.”

4) CHILDCARE VOLUNTEERS: 11/4-6 (Thursday 7:30-10, Fri. 7:30-10, Sat. all day). Take care of kiddos while their parents are in Missions Classes and earn $10/hour! Let me know ASAP if interested, because from Pastor Hong, “We only need about two people.”
5) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Mike Lim. From Sang, “Please be there by 9:15 AM on Sunday.”
6) DEVOTIONS: Ezekiel 43-48. As we finish the book of Ezekiel, God prophesies some amazing images of the life that comes through His Spirit. From chapter 47, about the effect of water flowing out of the temple:
Then he led me back to the bank of the river. 7 When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. 8 He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, [b] where it enters the Sea. [c] When it empties into the Sea, [d] the water there becomes fresh. 9 Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. 10 Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds—like the fish of the Great Sea. [e] 11 But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt. 12 Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”
Coconut Bay, here we come…
