Hi Everyone,
Summer is in full swing, and there’s much to celebrate: 1) Congrats to Sam and Charlene (and aloha!)!!! 2) Congrats to Bomyi and Paul on their upcoming wedding!!! 3) Congrats to Daniel (UCLA) on graduation (if someone else is graduating, and I missed you (47% chance), I’m the worst)! 4) Congrats to the Professor, teachers, graders, and students for finishing the first-ever SAT Prep Course! 5) For the rest of you students/teachers, hooray for summer vacation! 5) Welcome back, Austin! 6) To dads, Happy Father’s Day! 7) Lakers game 7 this Thursday!
For all of the above, PRAISE GOD for being SO GOOD TO US!!!!! OK, I don’t believe in God making the Lakers win, but still, He’s the greatest! People of God, let’s recognize all that He is doing within and around us, and let’s rejoice…
1) NEWLYWEDS: Congratulations to Sam and Charlene on making it to the finish line, and for a great wedding weekend! As I’ve heard from the newlyweds numerous times, THANK YOU to every one of you who helped out and worked really hard to make it a beautiful event. Samlene will be in Hawaii until next week…
2) SAT PREP PARTY: THIS SATURDAY @ 3 PM @ KWONS’. Professor and teachers, you poured into our students for 12 weeks, and there have been rave reviews from them and their parents. They will thank you with the greatest gift of all, food. Special props to the Professor, who gave up his social life for three months (A) Because he was @ SAT for five hours every Saturday and Sunday; and B) Because he was really sweaty all the time from running around and making copies). A huge blessing to our Youth.
3) COMMUNITY GROUP: THIS FRIDAY @ 7 PM @ SANG/GRACE’S. Deacon Tae led a great study on the question of evil in light of our good God, and we’ll continue to dig into more specifics on that issue. We’ll also have our usual 5-star potluck buffet and celebrate the glorious 16th championship of the Lakers…
4) MISSIONS TRAINING: THIS SATURDAY @ 5 PM @ BUILDING A. Last year was such an amazing time of ministering to the Hualapai tribe in Arizona. It was also a really fun time of bonding for our church. Our 2010 URC Hualapai lineup: Jacob, Sam, Austin, Daniel (Dylan’s uncle), David Kwon, Hyonroh, and a couple of others. It’s like the Yankees’ 2009 roster. Training is every Saturday from 5 PM – 8 PM, and there’s only a month left… There are also prayer meetings every Friay @ 9:30 PM @ the KM Sanctuary for the missions team.
If you want to go but aren’t on the list, please email me ASAP to let me know. Also, if you have any questions, please contact the team leader, Pastor Hong (unionhong@yahoo.com).
5) FATHER’S DAY FOOTWASHING: THIS SUNDAY @ 11:45 AM @ PRE-SCHOOL CLASSROOM. Dads, the kiddos will wash our feet this Sunday, and though we’ll probably be more dirty after they’re done, it’ll be an awesome time of receiving their love.
6) GRADUATION CEREMONY: THIS SUNDAY @ 1 PM @ KM SANCTUARY. For Daniel (UCLA) graduating college, Ula coming up to the URC, and every one from the kiddos on up will level up. Let’s cheer them on.
7) SPORTS SUNDAY: THIS SUNDAY @ 2 PM @ SOUTH HILLS HIGH SCHOOL. This can only happen when SAT is off, so let’s do this! We’ll reenact the Lakers winning the championship, as well as the Saints in the Superbowl, Nadal in the French Open, and Usain Bolt at the Olympics. There’s a 31% chance Wilson will throw up, which will be a reenactment of himself throwing up after running just 1/4 mile.
8 ) MORe MEETING: THIS SUNDAY @ 5 PM @ EM SANCTUARY. I think this is officially the most tightly packed Sunday in the history of Union. If you miss this Sunday, we will disown you for being too far behind. Seriously, though, the MORe Coordinators are trying hard to get everyone on the same page and fully prepared, so please show up.
9) VBS: 6/24 (Thu @ 5 PM) – 6/26 (Sat @ 5 PM). (Crocodile Hunter accent: On) We’ll take the younglings on a safari through the SonQuest Rainforest, as we explore the wonders of God’s love! (Accent: Off) I believe the elementary students and teachers will sleep over Thursday and Friday nights. For pre-school, it’s Friday and Saturday from 9 AM – 5 PM.
Teachers: Jacob, Carolyn, David Kwon, Hyonroh, Audrey, Andy. All parents, please try to help out for pre-school. If I missed you, email me and talk to Mrs. Hong (Jeremiah’s mom).
10) PRAISE BIBLE STUDY POSTPONED: Sorry, I didn’t find out about the Graduation until after service last week. We’ll meet next week @ 1 PM…
Wow, we reached double digits in announcements, but it’s filled with celebrations and opportunities to serve the Lord. Let’s do so with joy, as we serve and grow together.
Sorry, forgot last two announcements:
11) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Deacon Tae Kim
12) DEVOTIONS: Isaiah 52-57: “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation.” – 52:7
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” – 53:5
