URC Weekly 5/23/10: Family Tree
Hi Family,
Our Family Retreat is finally here!!! Like our relatives, though we don’t always see our extended church family, we’re all connected to one another. We prayed on Sunday that since URC is doing relatively well, we’d be able to go to the retreat with the mindset of lifting up the other ministries: Pre-School, Elementary, Youth Group, KM Young Adults, and KM Adults. Let’s pray for each group, and when we go up, let’s encourage them.
1) UNION FAMILY RETREAT: THIS SATURDAY (3:30 PM) – MONDAY (12:00 PM) @ CAMP CEDAR CREST (33325 Green Valley Lake Rd., Running Springs, CA 92314; 909-867-2531).
Theme: “Be Strong in the Grace” (2 Timothy 2:1)

Weather: Highs in mid 60′s/lows around 40, sunny
This will be one of those times we always reminisce about in the future. We’ve never had a family retreat before, and our emphasis will be on bonding as a church. We won’t have as much structure as usual (small groups, etc.) and will have our worship services joint with the Youth Group, while the other ministries meet separately (we’ll be with everyone for meals and possibly some activities). Activities will range from every imaginable sport to fishing and paintballing.
ARRIVE/DEPART: We need to arrive by 3:30 PM on Saturday and will leave at noon on Monday. A bunch of people are going up earlier to hang out by the lake, and you’re welcome to do so. It’ll take about two hours to get there from church (maybe more with holiday traffic), so PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY, PLEASE BRING $60 PER ADULT TO ME AT THE RETREAT (50% discount because of mother church support). If you’d like to go and aren’t on the list, contact me ASAP.
TRANSPORTATION: I have everyone driving up separately except Hyonroh and my family (carpool). If others want to carpool, let me know ASAP, and meet us @ church @ 12 PM on Saturday.
BRING: Sleeping bag or blanket, clothes for warm and cold weather, sneakers, toiletries, flashlight, towels, snacks, Bible, and pen.
2) FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT MAKE IT TO THE RETREAT, THERE WILL BE KOREAN WORSHIP SERVICES @ UNION @ 8 AM AND 11 AM IN THE LARGE SANCTUARY. Please pray for us at the retreat, and we will be praying for you.
3) MORe PRE-VIVAL: God was truly glorified, so mission accomplished. We gathered around tacos, sang to the Lord, heard a convicting message from Sam Koh, and prayed together with the power of the Holy Spirit. There is so much more that God will pour out at the MORe Retreat (8/2-5), so let’s pray deeply now…
4) COMMUNITY GROUP POSTPONED: Due to the Family Retreat and the June schedule, we will NOT meet this Friday, but gather at Tae/Sara’s a week from Friday (6/4) for CG. Nothing on the slate for this week, but pray!
5) SAM AND CHARLENE’S WEDDING: SATURDAY (6/12) @ 5 PM @ LARGE SANCTUARY. 2 1/2 weeks and counting, so please mark your calendars, pray for our brother and sister, and let them know soon if you’re willing to help out with getting everything ready (they’ll need as much help as they can get!).
6) DEVOTIONS: Isaiah 34-39: “Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with a vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you’” (35:3-4).
I’ve asked for us to pray over every announcement, and this is where the power of our church finds its source. Remember your connections to our bigger Family at Union, pray for our church, and let’s make the most of our time this weekend.
