URC Weekly 5/2/10: Thank God for You, Mom

Hi Family,

If one of the ways we know God is as our perfect Father/parent figure, then our moms are a glimpse of who God is to us.  In this world that is both as cold and hard as a stone, they show us perhaps the closest thing to Christ’s unconditional love.  Time to show some love and gratitude…

1) MOTHER’S DAY LUNCH: THIS SUNDAY @ 12 PM @ CHURCH.  “The stomach is the way to a woman’s heart,” so let’s tell our moms we love them by cooking them a delicious meal.  Chefs Tae, Charlene, John, and Jacob have created a Mexican menu, highlighted by fajitas (!), but they’ll need help!  We’ll be prepping Saturday and cooking Sunday, and Tae will let us know when to meet and what everyone’s responsibilities will be.

So far for Saturday, I have assistant chefs Sam, Ludia, Sarah, Hyonroh, Audrey, and Michelle (though some of you are available only at certain times).  If anyone else is able to help out, please let Tae or I know ASAP.  Thank you everyone!!!

2) PRAYER MEETING: THIS THURSDAY @ 8 PM @ ENGLISH CHAPEL.  At our leadership meeting, we discussed where we are as a church, and the prevailing thought was that we were just staying the same without growing spiritually.  I love the fact that we’re a Family that’s so close-knit and loves to hang out, but what distinguishes us as the followers of Christ if we’re not praying, worshiping, and ministering?  The Professor will lead our prayer meeting this Thursday, and I pray that our entire church considers gathering for prayer as important as gathering for fellowship.

3) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Jane Lim

4) DEVOTIONS: Isaiah 16-20, “So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD” (19:21).

Let us pray…
