URC Weekly 5/16/10: MORe Pre-vival

Hi Sisters and Brothers,

This is a photo of Billy Graham preaching at a revival.  How powerfully the Spirit moved then, and how great the transformation in thousands of people’s lives.  We have our own MORe (Ministry of Renewal) Pre-vival this Sunday, as we gather with our sister churches to worship and pray for MORe XI this summer.  Though the preacher is Sam Koh and not Billy Graham, and the congregation 100 instead of 10,000, it’s the same God we worship, meaning anything is possible.  Let great faith in a great God produce great expectations…

1) TNF: THIS THURSDAY @ 7 PM @ MCDONALD’S (928 North Azusa Ave., Covina, 91722).  They’ve got the Dollar Menu, playground, and the best fast food burger (Big Mac), fries, Coke (it’s different there!), sauces, Chicken Nuggets, and dessert (hot fudge sundae) in the business.  You can challenge the Big Mac and fries, but everything else is no contest.  Yes, I plan to consume all of those things.  See you there.

2) DONATIONS: THIS SUNDAY @ CHURCH.  Garnet is collecting used goods to give to children of homeless/low-income families who come daily to the Santa Ana Civic Center to get food/donated supplies.  Toys, books, clothes, old bags, sleeping bags, anything you want off your hands (within reason) will be valuable to another person/family.

3) MORE XI PRE-VIVAL: THIS SUNDAY FROM 3-7 PM @ URC.  Let’s pray throughout this week and then see the power of God in our time of fellowship, praise, message by Sam Koh, and prayer.  We’ll have dinner provided by our best friend, Taco Man, as well as a retreat briefing.

4) FAMILY RETREAT: MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND (SAT 5/29- MON 5/31) @ CAMP CEDAR CREST, near Big Bear (33325 Green Valley Lake Rd., Running Springs, 92314).  This will be one of those times we always reminisce about in the future.  We’ve never had a family retreat before, and our emphasis will be on bonding as a church.  We won’t have as much structure as usual (small groups, etc.) and will have our worship services joint with the Youth Group, while the other ministries meet separately (we’ll be with everyone for meals and possibly some activities).  Activities will range from every imaginable sport to fishing and paintballing.  URC will lead praise, and Pastor Joshua and I will preach, so unlike having a guest praise team or preacher, it’ll be more intimate.  Please devote yourself to prayer for this important event in our entire church.

We need to arrive by 3:30 PM on Saturday and leave at noon on Monday.  For those who want to carpool there, we’ll leave around noon on Saturday.  PLEASE BRING $60 PER ADULT TO WON BY THIS SUNDAY (huge discount because of mother church support).

5) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Grace Lee

Lots to pray about, means God is moving… let’s run with Him.

Sorry, DEVOTIONS: Isaiah 28-33: “Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (30:20-21)
