URC Weekly 3/14/10: The Professor’s SAT Prep
Hi Family,
Last weekend, Hyonroh started a long, 12-week journey with 13 Youth Group students. Together, they will trek down a path where there are five routes at every crossroad, where the right choice is a step toward greatness and the wrong one will wound you mortally, where your only weapons are your wits and a sharp #2 pencil, as you face the treacherous bubble sheet… we’re talking about none other than SAT Prep Course. Now some of you may have heard of Lee’s Review, which attempts to improve students’ SAT scores, but this is the REAL Lee’s Review, with “The Professor” Hyonroh Lee as the professor of every subject, “IRS” Won Lee as the math instructor, and “I Got a 570 on My SAT Verbal While Joyce Kwon Just Got a 530 as a 9th Grader, but Does Being a Pastor Help My Credibility?” Sang Lee as the writing instructor. Will you join us in this epic battle for our students’ education?
1) THE PROFESSOR’S SAT PREP COURSE: EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Times may be adjusted, but if you’re interested in helping with proctoring practice exams (Saturdays), grading exams and quizzes, or teaching (Sundays), please talk to The Professor. It’s a free course that takes a huge financial burden off of our church families, a great opportunity to build discipleship relationships with our Youth, and a way to help open doors for their futures. Let’s get involved!
2) TNF: THIS THURSDAY @ 7 PM @ WOOD RANCH BBQ & GRILL (3335 Grand Avenue, Chino Hills, 91709). I’ve never been there, but they have menu items such as “Killer Buffalo Wings,” “America’s Best BBQ Tri Tip Sandwich,” and “Incredible Mashed Potatoes,” and “The Best Cheesecake.” I hope to taste each of those. See you there.
3) PRAISE BIBLE STUDY: THIS SUNDAY @ 1 PM. Remember Psalm 150, and please read/reflect on Philippians 4:8-9 before Sunday.
4) SPORTS SUNDAY: THIS SUNDAY @ 2 PM @ SOUTH HILLS HIGH SCHOOL (645 S Barranca Ave., West Covina, 91791). I know SAT is at the same time, but we’ll figure something out. Come with all your sports gear.
5) PRAYER REQUESTS: Please continue to pray for the health of Jane and Madeleine, as well as Mike’s strength in taking on more responsibility (successfully put on two birthday parties for Dylan by himself!).
Also, let’s pray for Steve Saint. He’s a missionary who spoke at Union a couple of years ago, and his life is depicted in the movie “End of the Spear,” about how he ministers to the tribe that killed his missionary father. Steve is on a tour in Korea, set up by our church and a Korean publishing company, and he’s sharing his missions testimony with thousands of people, from mega churches to TV/radio/print media to Christians in the senate. Until he leaves Korea this Monday, please pray that God would speak through him to inspire Korean missionaries with the same kind of unconditional love for the lost.
Finally, praise God for His answers to your prayers for Benji!!! From Shanie (mom), on Saturday: “Benji got his day 8 bone marrow biopsy result today… there are NO leukemia cells in his bone marrow, so he classifies as a “RAPID RESPONDER” to the chemo and is now in REMISSION. That doesn’t mean we’re completely in the clear, but it is GREAT NEWS! We are thrilled with the news. Benji is now a baldie, looking sometimes like a little buddha, at times like a pint-sized PUNK. He has some pain now and then, and is pale but otherwise he maintains his BRIGHT SPIRIT. Keep praying for us!” Sam asked for us to pray that every cancer cell would be killed through treatment, and none would resurface for 3 1/2 years. He thanks you for each time you lift up Benji before God.
AS I WROTE IN AN UPDATE LAST WEEK, THE FAMILY ONLY WANTS TYPE AB BLOOD AND PLATELETS, for fear of a negative reaction to other types. Even if UCLA Donation Center tells you all types are OK, please only donate to Benjamin Koh if you’re Type AB. Thank you!
