URC Weekly 1/3/09: Resolutions
Hi Everyone,
First full week of the new year… what’s your resolution for 2010? Some good stuff from the pic above, but maybe not “Make out like you were in high school,” hahah. Hopefully, along with a practical resolution, you also have a spiritual one, so we can keep “forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” Grace and my resolution is to memorize the verse I quote at the bottom of every URC Weekly, and y’all are welcome to join us (the verses might suddenly become short and to-the-point…). Either way, let’s make this the greatest year of our lives by taking risks, sticking together, and putting God first.
1) URC WORSHIP SERVICE: THIS SUNDAY @ 9:30 AM @ ENGLISH CHAPEL. Thank you all for your prayers and love you showed to our family. Thanks also for accommodating our crazy week with Yun-Soo’s birth and having a joint service. She was born on Wednesday night, but had to stay in the hospital for antibiotics, so we’ve been traveling back and forth to the hospital every day. Last Sunday, I went to a church a block away from home, then left before the service ended to drive Grace to the hospital (missed Union the whole time; nowhere is better!!!). We’re bringing our girl home tomorrow, and can’t wait.
Our worship service will return to 9:30 AM this Sunday, and again, I encourage y’all to come and pray with us by 9:15. Can’t wait for Sunday, either…
2) TAX STATEMENTS: Last call for tax statements for your offering in 2009. Let me know this week, and Won will get you a statement a week from this Sunday.
3) BLOCK PRAYER: SUNDAY (1/31) @ 12 PM. One of our church neighbors asked for a prayer meeting at the corner of Lark Ellen and Puente because there have been so many accidents (someone died in one this Christmas day). I had the exact same concern, but never thought of having a prayer meeting (brilliant!). We’ll make fliers, invite residents, and meet on the last Sunday of the month to pray.
4) COORDINATORS’ BIBLE STUDIES: THIS SUNDAY @ 1 PM. I’d like to meet with each Coordinator team separately and have an individual Bible study to lay as a guide/foundation for your ministry this year. The following week, we’ll meet to discuss our plans for the year. Please let me know if you have a schedule conflict, and look for email tonight, with an attached document containing your Bible passage.
5) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Jessica Kim (sorry about last week, we’ll try again)
6) DEVOTIONS: Proverbs 1-6 (“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” – Proverbs 1:7) Wrote that from memory! One down…
