URC Weekly 11/29/09: Let Us Pray
Hi Guys,
We have a very busy final month of the year, not only with all the holiday festivities, but also for our church. Let’s remember to draw closer to Jesus, as it is His birthday that approaches:
1) PRAYER MEETING: THIS THURSDAY @ 8 PM @ ENGLISH SANCTUARY. A necessary way to draw near to Jesus in the midst of busyness. It’s the first of our monthly prayer meetings, and we’re gonna meet the Lord face-to-face. Let’s come together to commune with the Almighty, as we pray with conviction, boldness, and faith that can move mountains.
2) KM ANNUAL MEETING: THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON. Our mother church will be setting its leadership and plans in place for 2010, so let’s remember to pray for divine wisdom for our 1st generation. Our URC Annual Meeting will be a week from Sunday, so keep us in prayer also.
3) COORDINATORS’ MEETING: Final meeting of the year. I’ll email you our game plan by Thursday, so please review it and come prepared with ideas and responses.
4) UCI COMMUNITY HOLIDAY PARTY: FRIDAY (12/18) FROM 7 AM – 4 PM (three-hour slots) @ UC Irvine Family Health Center (800 N Main Street, Santa Ana). Garnet is our connection, and she says, “We’re doing developmental screening on children of low-income families, and we need volunteers to do things from directing families, passing out forms, handing out gifts, etc. Thanks!” Please email Garnet if you’re interested (gkim@aapca4.org).
5) CHRISTMAS BAPTISM: SUNDAY (12/20) @ URC WORSHIP SERVICE. Protestants have two sacraments, where we believe the grace of Christ is given to the church: Holy Communion and baptism. If you haven’t been baptized, or not since you consciously chose to follow Christ (for both adults and children with Christian parents), this is something every believer should do as a public confession of their faith. I was baptized seven years after I became a Christian, so it’s never too late. Please let me know ASAP if you’re interested, so we can arrange a teaching on baptism.
6) UPCOMING EVENTS: CHRISTMAS PARTY (Sat, 12/19 @ 5 PM @ James Kim’s house); CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATION (Thu, 12/24 @ 7 PM @ Large Sanctuary); WINTER RETREAT (Sun-Tue, 12/27-29 @ Camp Maranatha).
For Christmas Eve, our very own DK will be directing a movie (let’s get started this Sunday with ideas for a script). For our retreat, it’ll be just URC (and friends you’d like to invite); save the dates!
7) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Tae Kim
8 ) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 120-125 (“I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”)
