URC Weekly 11/22/09: Happy Thanksgiving!



Hi Family,

Thank God for an amazing weekend leading into this Thanksgiving week: Friday: Prepping for Thanksgiving @ the Park and playing games into the night; Saturday: Morning prayer/worship, followed by mass cooking and our outreach event; Sunday: Joint worship service with our entire Education Department. Like we talked about at worship service, let’s take this week to reflect and count the many blessings in our lives, especially that of our gracious Savior. May we be humbled, grateful, and embrace the lives we live each day with our Lord.

1) THANK YOU FOR THANKSGIVING @ THE PARK!!! Thanks to Tae and Jacob, for staying for nine hours straight in the kitchen, even after everyone left for the park, in order to fry those last two birds; Entire kitchen crew, who made restaurant-quality food for our community; John, for being a publicity machine, creating that awesome flyer, posting copies all over, and making his facebook status “Thanksgiving @ the Park on Saturday from 11 AM-5 PM”; Sam, for getting the ball rolling and keeping it rollling; Mike and Ludia for the awesome pics; Michelle and the face-painters; Praise Team and Charlene, for rocking the clamshell; 3 Jameses and the rest of the Set-up/Take-down crew, who always go unnoticed; 2 Sara(h)s, for the raffle/prizes; Moms, for taking care of our kiddos and making sure they had a ton of fun; David and the boyz, for shopping for all our food/supplies and washing dishes; Everyone, for your powerful prayers and taking the time to get to know and minister to our community members.

I look at that list, and basically our entire church came together to make our outreach possible. This is the 1 Corinthians 12 image of the body of Christ, and what the church SHOULD be. Though we didn’t have a huge number of people, we got to have real conversations and share the Gospel, with such responses from our new friends as, “Thanks for pulling me out of the ditch.” God started something that we can build on @ Covina Park and our community members, so let’s build on this…

2) 9:30 AM WORSHIP SERVICE: Sorry y’all, back to the “Same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel” (only people born before 1985 will understand; just come by 9:15 to pray with us and prepare your hearts, which makes the biggest difference in our worship).

3) NOVEMBER PICS: Check out Angela’s Birthday CG, Thanksgiving @ the Park, and our Joint Thanksgiving Service in our “Photos” section.

4) HIP HOP NIGHT @ CAYA (Come as You are): THIS SUNDAY FROM 7:00-9:30 PM @ 19648 Camino de Rosa, Walnut, 91789. Our very own R2B will be performing at this Christian cafe night, so come listen, dance, and worship.

5) COORDINATORS INTERVIEWS: THIS SUNDAY AFTER WORSHIP. Please reflect on your past year of service in leadership, continue to pray about serving next year, and we’ll discuss your thoughts.

6) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Jane Lim

7) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 119 only, a great (and long) chapter of the Bible, sectioned under each letter of the Hebrew alphabet (“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”).
