URC Weekly 11/15/09: Thanksgiving @ the Park!

Hi Family,

Every Thursday, I say to Grace, “What the… there’s no way it’s the end of the week already!”  On a grander scale, there’s no way it’s already Thanksgiving.  It feels like summer just ended, but we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving as a church this weekend, and as families next Thursday.  What better way to give thanks to the Lord than to do His will in serving our community…

1) LOCK-IN/PREP NIGHT: THIS FRIDAY @ 7 PM @ CHURCH.  For our Outreach, we’ll prepare our hearts on Friday night with a prayer meeting, and we’ll prepare our food and activities afterward.  I got the green light from Rev. Ahn to use the ULC house to sleep over in on Friday night, so we can play games and save the drive back on Saturday morning.  Please pray throughout the week for this outreach.

2) THANKSGIVING @ THE PARK: THIS SATURDAY FROM 11 AM TO 5 PM @ COVINA PARK (300 W. San Bernadino Rd., Covina, 91723; corner of San Bernadino and 4th).  Family activities, Thanksgiving meal, musical performances on stage, a Word from the Lord, what a great way to serve as a church and make an impact on the neighborhood God has chosen for us.  There’s a need for everyone to help out, allowing us to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

John, Jacob, and whoever raised your hand (God knows!), please be there with me and Sam @ 7 AM to get the turkeys going, prep the rest of the food, and transport chairs/tables.

3) JOINT THANKSGIVING SERVICE: THIS SUNDAY @ 11 AM @ ENGLISH SANCTUARY.  The entire Education Dept. will gather, from the little ones to the old people (us) for a God-honoring service.  DO NOT COME @ 9:30 AM, but DO COME BY 10:45 AM, so the old folks set an example.  Please don’t be late, as it tells our young students that worship is optional/casual and not sacred for the Lord.  We’ll have the altar with fruit baskets by the kiddos, slide shows, testimonies, a special song, praise, and message.  I’ll be preaching, so please pray for me, that the Word of God will be meaningful to the entire range of the congregation.

For offering, please write your name on the envelope, so we can distinguish from offering for Youth/Elementary ministries.

4) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 113-118 (“Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.”/”Let Israel say: ‘His love endures forever.’  Let the house of Aaron say: ‘His love endures forever.’  Let those who fear the LORD say: ‘His love endures forever.’”)

Give thanks and give reason for others to give thanks.  See y’all this weekend!
