Hi Union,
OK, we later discovered that the ball in our T-shirt logo is actually a water polo ball, but who cares, it’s tournament time! A month ago, after our volleyball practice, I thought we’d be the worst team on the field, but after a victory over Sheepgate and a close loss to UMEC, I think we have a chance… at making the playoffs. The tournament is always a great day to spend with the whole church, as kiddos run around, we feast on kalbi, and everyone cheers Korean-style, with pot-banging and screaming through a megaphone. It’s like a supersized family picnic.
1) PRAISE GOD FOR OUR YOUTH REVIVAL!!! About 100 people from all our sister churches came to Union, and we worshiped in song, Word, prayer, and fellowship. Thanks to Sarah (organizer), Sam (media), Daniel (praise team), Youth Group (tacos), and everyone else who helped set up/clean up/take down. One unsung hero that I hope all of us encourage is Pastor Joshua. He put in blood, sweat, and tears to make the retreat and revival possible, and he always avoids the limelight. Please thank him when you see him.
2) COMMUNITY GROUP: THIS FRIDAY @ 7 PM @ TAE/SARA’S. The 3 P’s: Potluck, Bible study on persistent prayer, and pool tourney #1092.
3) V-BALL TOURNEY: THIS SATURDAY FROM 8 AM-4 PM @ WHITTIER NARROWS RESERVE PARK (750 Santa Anita Ave., El Monte, 91733). The park is enormous, so look for the part that’s just south of the 60, west entrance from Santa Anita, and the field should be just northeast of Legg Lake (Google Maps).
V-BALL TEAM (Won, Andy, Brian, Chris, Jacob, Charlene, Commander, Jessica, Park JSN) MUST BE THERE BY 7 AM. The first game usually starts at 8 AM sharp, and we need to warm up. Everyone else, come support the team!
4) DADS’ CLASSES: THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY @ 5 PM @ CHURCH. I think all four of us dads need this, but only Tae and Mike would understand the Korean…
5) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Andy Yi
6) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 89-94 (“For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. O LORD Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.”)
Looking forward to the weekend with y’all…
