Union Weekly 10/11/09: MORe Focus

Hi Church,

The MORe (Youth Group Retreat) Revival meeting is this Sunday, and I was gonna put a campfire pic up from Yosemite.  After thinking a bit, I believe this pic (also from Yosemite) is more appropriate because more than reigniting a fire, a longer-lasting effect on our faith might be found in refocusing on the Lord we met there: the God who inspires and answers prayer, the One who equips His faithful for every good work, the Holy Spirit, whose power comes into the fellowship of believers, the Jesus who saved souls that will never be the same, the Almighty who is worthy of every ounce of praise we lifted up.

1) TNF: THIS THURSDAY @ 6:30 PM @ BIOLA CAFETERIA (13800 Biola Ave, La Mirada, CA 90639).  AYCE alert!  For a reported $8.60, we will enjoy one of the best university cafeterias I’ve ever been to, at least 593 times better than Hometown Buffet.  After 5 PM, you can park anywhere, and the cafeteria is on the east side of Parking Lot B (zoom in on Google maps, and you’ll see).  Food stops being served @ 7:30, but we can hang out later.  We’ll meet inside.  Also, an historic landmark: you can see the outside of where Charlene works…

2) MORe Revival: THIS SUNDAY @ 5 PM @ UNION ENGLISH SANCTUARY.  All the churches from the retreat will come together again to worship, with the Woozy (Daniel’s praise team) and Pastor Sam Koh as our speaker.  Let’s gather with our sisters and brothers before the true and living God.  As we did for the retreat, let’s also pray beforehand with conviction and expectation for the revival.

3) VBALL SCRIMMAGE AGAINST UMEC: THIS SUNDAY @ 1:30 PM @ UNION.  Last week, after thinking we were the worst team in our denomination’s history, we beat Sheepgate 2-0, 2-1, 2-1.  OK, there were some Jr. High kids on that team, and one deacon started talking on his cell phone in the middle of a play (Andy hit it right to his spot when he picked up the call; he would, ahha), but I’m gonna hang onto whatever hope I can.  This week, it’s UMEC.  I heard they banned team members under 14 and confiscated all cell phones to prepare for us.  We’ll play, then go straight to the revival.

THE VBALL TOURNEY IS A WEEK FROM THIS SATURDAY, ON 10/24, so please plan to come out.  The whole church (and 20 sister churches) comes every year, and it’s a day of fun at the park with free food (usually kalbi).

4) DADS’ CLASSES: 10/24-25 (Sat.-Sun.) @ 5 PM @ CHURCH.  I mistakenly thought these were Korean classes (remember during announcements, Sam thought it was weird that we could learn Korean in two days?  He was right), but they’re actually classes on parenting for dads, in the Korean language.  I guess I need classes for both dads and Korean.  Please let me know if you’re interested, even if you wanna learn for your future as a dad.

5) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Won Lee

6) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 83-88 (“How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty!  My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God./Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name./But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”)

MORe Focus on King Jesus during your week…

Sang
