URC Weekly 9/27/09: Birthday Dessert

Hi Family,

One thing I learned about SoCal culture is that people celebrate birthdays extravagantly: a big gathering, always a surprise, maybe a trip out of town… it’s a production.  No different for the 29th birthday of our church, when we had a God-honoring joint worship, message on loving our enemies, kalbi/sausage feast, and a celebration festival.  As we go into our 30th year, let’s remember Kristine Park’s (Youth Group) prayer for our 2nd generation, that we would be mature and able to lead our own family spiritually, as a 30 year-old man would.

1) SPIRITUAL LEGACY: Thank you, Sam, for representing URC on Sunday with an awesome four-year compilation video!  Great memories, funny, professional, and inspiring.

2) TNF: THIS THURSDAY @ 7:30 PM (not 7 PM!) @ GUPPY HOUSE (17188 Colima Rd., Hacienda Heights, CA 91745).  Instead of dinner, let’s eat beforehand and have dessert together.

3) FRESH 2009: SATURDAY, 10/10 @ 6 PM @ LA CONVENTION CENTER (3911 S. Figueroa St.).  Outreach/concert event, featuring David Crowder Band and preacher Francis Chan.  Tix are $25, but if you wanna go, let me know TODAY, and I’ll ask Pastor Sam Koh to reserve one for you @ $20.

4) KOREAN SCHOOL: 10/24-25 (SAT-SUN) @ 5 PM @ UNION.  If you’re interested in improving your Korean in hopes of becoming better than me, check out Korean School and talk to Rev. Lim for more details.

5) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: DAVID KWON

6) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 71-76 (“But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold.  For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked…Whom have I in heaven but you?  And earth has nothing I desire besides you.  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”)

Hope to see y’all Thursday.
