URC Weekly 8/30/09: Labor Day Weekend

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes when we’re @ work/school, we feel like that guy shoveling dirt.  Sometimes it’s worse, and it feels like we’re shoveling poop.  Either way, everyone is happy with a long weekend…

1) RETREAT LEADERS’ CELEBRATION: Thanks to Sarah and Sam, and everyone else who helped organize and decorate for the celebration.  So many reasons to praise the Lord and celebrate the retreat, and we also got to celebrate Hyonroh’s birthday.  Props to Hyunjoo for doing a good job bringing him and keeping the secret, except a couple of things: 1) She told him she had to call her dad and called Sarah.  Hyonroh said he heard a girl’s voice, and, unable to lie, she said it was Sarah, leaving him confused; 2) She brought him through the wrong door, so he saw all our backs, as we looked at the opposite door.   She just came back from Korea, so I’m cutting her some slack.

2) PRAY FOR SAM: I’m going to Vancouver from Thu-Sun as a best man and emcee for my friend’s wedding.  As I told you, with a hectic life, I’m not looking forward to the duties, but they’ve gotta be done (advice: choose non-parents to emcee your wedding…).  Pray for my witness to Steve and everyone there, an almost completely non-Christian crowd.  Pray also for Sam, as he leads our worship service and preaches his 2nd message for URC. May God speak powerfully to our church through His servant.

3) NO CG THIS FRIDAY: Will resume next week…

4) VBALL PRACTICE: THIS SUNDAY @ 1:30 PM.  Last week, we played in 100 degree weather, and this Sunday’s forecast is 20 degrees lower.

5) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 47-52 (“Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain”; “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”)

Have a great weekend, and I’ll miss The Family.
