URC Weekly 8/9/09: Survived Yosemite!

Ahhhhhh, I’m typing on my computer at my desk, and I feel so far from the great outdoors of Yosemite. Yes, that means we’re back to a million creature comforts that make life almost too easy, but it also means we’re removed from living in mind-blowing beauty, constant fellowship, and a pace of life slow enough to actually think about what we’re doing. Part of me is just glad to be back in one piece, as Half-Dome hikers will tell you we barely survived the 14-mile hike, harrowing ascent up the cables of the dome, and running out of water just past the midway point. Overall, though, we built strong bonds there, and I pray they will grow throughout our Family.

1) CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE! Walk into the Living Room, and you will see a transformed space. The walls of yellow, green, and purple (and Chocopie ceilings) are replaced with one solid color for each room (my apologies for colors being lighter and more pastel than I expected). The half-wood, half-green carpet is now one gorgeous wood floor that runs through both rooms. We rearranged it to make more sense, and after some new furniture and decorations, you’ll wanna live there permanently.

THANK YOU’S: TO DAVID LEE AND HIS FAMILY for donating the flooring/selling part of it for super-cheap; to DAVID LEE for being our foreman and the hardest worker of us all; to every single person who helped for any part of the four back-breaking days. I was so proud of your willingness to sacrifice, and you have permanent ownership of the Living Room. I believe God said those words you wanna hear most, “Well done, good and faithful servants.”

2) MORNING PRAYER FOR STUDENTS: THIS PAST TUESDAY-THURSDAY @ 5 AM@ LARGE SANCTUARY. Please continue pray that our students will walk with Jesus, as they begin a new school year, with many opportunities and challenges.

3) YOUTH RETREAT LEADERS’ CELEBRATION: THIS SATURDAY @ 4 PM @ HUNTINGTON BEACH. Everyone helping with the retreat is welcome to enjoy the beach, firepit, food, and fellowship with our sister churches. Please contact Sam or Sarah Kwon for exact location.

4) YOUTH RETREAT: NEXT TUESDAY-FRIDAY. Pray deeply, with great expectations of how God will reveal Himself to the students and staff

5) UNION PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mother’s Day, Graduations, Hualapai Mission, Jesus Walks Praise Night, Dodgers AYCE, Construction, and Yosemite. 7) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 29-34 (“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”)

The Lord bless you and keep you…
