URC Weekly 7/19/09: Work Zone



Hi Gang,

This pic is from our original X-Treme Makeover in 2006.  As you can see, it’s not exactly a work zone: Won is checking something important on his shoes, Chris is about to sit down and text, David is chillin on the little floor space we laid down, Tae is dressed for bed, and I… am taking a picture.  Haha, actually these guys and several others worked all day to lay our floors and make the Living Room we now enjoy.  As the Lord has blessed us with growth, we’ve destroyed the wall and will do construction one more time…

1) CONSTRUCTION WEEKEND: THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY @ 12 PM.  Friday, we’ll tear up the old floor and carpet with the Demolition Crew: Sang, James Harty, Won, Jacob, Tae, Sam, Austin Joel, and John.

Saturday, we’ll paint the walls and ceiling with the Artist Crew: Sang, Audrey, Hana, James Kim, Jacob, Won, John, Austin, and Ludia.  Chris will come on one of the days, and anyone else is welcome to help out.  Eat lunch beforehand, COME BY NOON, and dinner will be provided on both days.  Do it for the food, the kids, us, and the Lord.

2) PARENT OUTING: We just got back from a perfect and much-needed date night!  AYCE Korean BBQ, followed by Star Trek (DK was spot on with his “A” grade).  We totally rejuvenated and felt like normal human beings again, enjoying a night out.  A HUGE THANK YOU to Sam, Charlene, Carolyn, Audrey, and James Kim for taking care of our kiddos!!!

3) YOUTH RETREAT MEETING: THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON.  Pastor Joshua and the Union teachers are planning a retreat for 18 churches and 180 people, and they honestly have so little help.  They need committed leaders, from URC and from EM members at other churches.  Please come out to the meeting and serve the Youth in this pivotal event.  The cost of the retreat for URC leaders should be (depending on support we receive) $100, down from $180.

4) PRAISE BIBLE STUDY: THIS SUNDAY @ 1 PM.  I’m so grateful for our Praise Team, and God has used you together in awesome ways this summer… Remember to do your homework (the song!), and we’ll spend time sharing them, as well as in the Word and prayer.

5) SURVIVOR YOSEMITE: A WEEK FROM SUNDAY (8/2-5): It’s coming… we have 18 people signed up so far, and we need you to do two things this Sunday: 1) BRING $70 to Won (discounted from $85).  We can only take a limited number of people, and we’ll go by first-paid, first-reserved; 2) BRING your gear.  I realize it’ll be hectic with more stuff in the Living Room during construction, so we’ll store everything somewhere safe.  Please bring your gear THIS SUNDAY, so we don’t have to scramble last minute:

SANG: 1 tent, pots/pans; RAY: 1 tent, 2 propane grills, 1 propane lantern, compact pots/pans; AUSTIN: 2 tents; MIKE/JANE: 1 tent; HYONROH: 1 gas grill; WON: 1 gas grill; DAVID: 2 propane lanterns, 1 gas grill; JOHN/ANDY: 1 propane lantern; MIKE/JANE: 1 propane lantern

SAM AND HYONROH: We’ll go for supplies/food this Sunday afternoon

7) DEVOTIONS: Psalm 11-16 (“For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.”)
