URC Weekly 5/17/09: West Side Story

Hi Church,

As the Kims move in the next week, and we say goodbye to Union Station @ Tina Lane, there are so many memories that come to mind: Prime rib feast created by Tae, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, pro-level deviled eggs, kalbi on the outdoor BBQ… OK, that was just food, but you gotta recognize.  We had baby showers, birthdays, Bible studies, deep prayer times, new friendships, all kinds of games, and 9028 pool tournaments.  In many ways, our church family made its home there, and it’s a good time to pause and thank God for what He’s given us.  Thanks to the Kims, as well, for using their spiritual gift (hospitality) to bless our ministry.  As they move west to LA, along with several others already there now, the center of our church moves west.  Wherever we are, let’s make the non-stop effort to gather and continue to write the story of our church…

1) UPLOADED PICS: Go to our website’s ”Photos” section to check out 2009 pics that Webmaster Ray posted (you’re the man!).

2) CG: THIS FRIDAY @ 7 PM @ SANG/GRACE’S.  Last time, we learned about a biblical approach to mothers, and this week, we’ll talk about fathers.  I realize these aren’t easy topics, but how else to find the best way to tackle hard issues but to look into the Holy Word?  Bring something yummy for our potluck.

3) URC PRAISE NIGHT (“JESUS WALKS… WITH YOU”): SUNDAY, 7/12 @ 6 PM @ URC ENGLISH CHAPEL.  Save the date for this event, when a collection of churches will gather to honor Jesus, who walks with us through the hardships we face.  We’ll have an expanded praise team, performances by R2B and others, guest speaker Randy Choi, and… Taco Man, who will cook all-you-can-eat-tacos on site!

4) VICTORIES AND DEFEATS: Hyonroh is on the Wall of Fame @ Orochon Ramen!  After devouring the Level 2 Spicy bowl in 24 minutes, he has become an LA icon.  Greatest of all, on the bottom of the picture, it reads, “unionrestoration.org.”  Ray, on the other hand, was defeated by Orochon for the second straight time and has since retired.  Lastly, congratulations to URC’s Resistance for defeating the Machines and their children in paintballing.

5) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Sarah Kwon

6) DEVOTIONS: Esther 9-Job 4 (Triumph of Jews in Esther; Job’s Great Suffering)

See y’all Friday!
