URC Weekly 5/10/09: Just Rice and Veggies

URC Weekly 5/10/09: Just Rice and Veggies

Hi Everyone,

It was Mother’s Day.  The elders were grilling beef for the moms.  URC had the simple task of taking care of just rice and veggies: Wash veggies, cut, put on plate.  Wash rice, add water, push “cook” button.  After all was said and done, moms sat down, there was delicious beef, a good spread of veggies, and… no rice.  We added too little water, and it was undercooked.  NOOOOOO!!!!!  We got instructions on how to make it and confirmed them with two people, but somewhere between the instructions and execution, we bombed on the most basic staple of Korean food.  The most common phrase I heard Sunday was, “Grumble, grumble, EM, grumble, grumble.”  We scrambled to recook undercooked rice, and someone commented they felt like they were making rice while camping.  Felt so bad for the moms, but the church was gracious and actually asked us to cook in Sept. (REDEMPTION!).  Still, valiant effort and a lot of sweat from y’all on that day, so a big thanks.  Until Sept., let’s eat food cooked by someone else:

1) TNF: THIS THURSDAY @ 7 PM @ OROCHAN RAMEN (123 Onizuka St # 303, LA, 90012).  If you eat “Spicy Level 2″ ramen in 30 min., your picture goes up on the wall.  Ray ordered it, but his picture is not up on the wall.  Will someone make URC famous?

2) PAINTBALLING: THIS SATURDAY @ 9:30 AM @ ENGLISH SANCTUARY.  URC “Resistance” vs. KM Parent “Terminator Machines.”  Machines need to be shot 17 times with nine witnesses before they’ll admit being hit.  You don’t have to wait till 5/21 to see who wins.

3) HOUSEKEEPING: The custodian had to spray the Living Room twice last week because of ants, so from now on, the room cannot have any food or drinks when we leave, tables wiped down, and trash needs to be emptied (please recycle bottles/cans in the kitchen).

4) YOUTH RETREAT: 8/18-21 (Tue.-Fri.).  If you’d like to be a teacher/staff member for the retreat, talk to Sam or Sarah Kwon, and plan on attending bi-weekly meetings on 5/31, 6/14, 6/28, 7/12, 7/26, 8/2, 8/9, 8/16.

5) COORDINATORS’ MEETING: PART II WILL BE THIS SUNDAY AFTER LUNCH.

6) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Hyonroh Lee

7) DEVOTIONS: Esther 3-8 (God Saves a Nation Through Esther)

Gonna go make some fully-cooked rice…
