D.K.’s Pick of the Week STAR TREK- 5/26/09
Star Trek… reaches the TOP of the galaxy!
Honestly, I was a bit hesitant about watching Star Trek. I’ve never watched the show before, I didn’t know any of the characters, and I didn’t know what the point of the show was. All I knew was that it involved William Shatner, “Beam me up Scotty,” and Professor X. I always thought that “trekkies” were lame and that everyone knew Star Wars was better. After seeing such great reviews for the movie, I started to have high expectations for it (VERY high expectations). But, I left the theater even more amazed then what I could have asked for. All you need is the first scene to blow you away.
Star Trek basically revolves around the life of James Tiberius Kirk (Chris Pine). It shows his childhood and how he got involved with the Starfleet Academy and the USS Enterprise (which I still think is a lame name). At the same time, it also shows the life of Spock (Zachary Quinto) and how he crossed paths with Kirk. As the movie progresses, you begin to learn the many conflicts in the movie. There is the conflict between Kirk and Spock and how logic is more important than emotion. In addition, it also features the evil Nero (Eric Bana) and how his attempt to destroy the USS Enterprise.
The movie is filled with amazing visuals, great acting, and some cheesy, witty dialogue. The graphics in the movie are stunning and it doesn’t get any better than this (flashy lights and loud sounds = win). The acting was great in the movie, and I don’t mean a few people did a good job, I mean that the whole cast put on a good show. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto truly makes you feel like they are Kirk and Spock battling through space. I also liked the role of Simon Pegg as “Scotty”. I thought it would be weird seeing him in Star Trek, after seeing him in Shaun of the Dead, but he blends right in with the cast.
Star Trek was a great movie and I recommend that everyone goes out and watches this now! Whether you like Star Trek or not, whether you are a nerd or not, whether you like sci-fi or not… Go watch it. You will not regret it..

DK, I thought I was reading a professional movie critic’s review. Off of this, all the parents are going to watch Star Trek on Sunday for our once-every-6-months theater film. We trust in DK, and we hope to live long, and prosper.
