Union Weekly 3/8/09: “You Have to Be Here”

Hi Everyone,

So good catching up with old friends and having some of our college students back for reUNION service.  Someone returned after a long time and asked me how things have been @ URC for the past year.  I replied that though we have a bunch of new members and different brothers and sisters serving, it’s still the same family (and freedom that comes with it): Same freedom to be goofy, same freedom to be vulnerable, same freedom to love one another in a dynamic way through “THE CHRIST.”  Thank God for the fellowship He’s created, and let’s gather for more time together this week:

1) THANK YOU TO THE MASTERS WHO RAN KIDZ NIGHT ON SATURDAY: DAVID (Gamemaster), SAM (Mediamaster), and AUDREY (Master of taking care of reserved girls on the verge of crying for the whole night).  Kidz had an awesome time, and parents had a blessed revival meeting, and none of those girls cried.

2) TNF: THIS THURSDAY (NOT WED) @ 7 PM @ BUFFALO WILD WINGS (3160 Chino Avenue, Chino Hills, CA 91709).  We changed the day back to Thursday because a couple more people might be able to make it.  It’s Boneless Thursday (50 cent wings), and there are now three contenders for Blazin’ Master: Tae, Ray, and James Kim.  Hyonroh, who’s fasting meat, will have to eat celery with Blazin’ sauce :(

3) HANDMADE DISTRICT FAIR: THIS SATURDAY FROM 10 AM-3 PM @ TUSTIN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (225 W. Main St., Tustin, CA 92780).  Our very own Angela has been selected to be one of over 40 local vendors showcasing jewelry, art, sewn creations and other types of handmade goodness.  Come for three reasons: Support Angela, support Music Saves Lives charity, and enjoy/buy a variety of crafts.  More information: www.HandmadeDistrict.com and www.MusicSavesLives.com

4) AUSTIN DROWN’S 1ST BIRTHDAY: THIS SUNDAY.  The Drowns are @ a church closer to their home, but they’re still family, so wish Austin a Happy Birthday!

5) YOSEMITE TRIP DATES: I have to reserve camp sites this Sunday morning, and I’d like to know what dates y’all prefer.

First, would you rather go Wed-Sat or Thu-Sat?  The drive is about 6 hours, so I’d like to go on Wed, settle in, stay Thur-Fri, and return Sat.

Second, if Wed-Sat, do you prefer 7/29-8/1 or 8/5-8/8?  Please check summer school/work schedules.

I think @ 7 AM on Sunday, it’s a mad dash to reserve sites online, so if you don’t email me, it’ll be 7/29-8/1.  This trip will be 100x easier than Santa Cruz, and easier=better.

6) FURNITURE DONATIONS: We’ve officially claimed the two rooms adjacent to our Living Room (other groups may share @ times), and we need furniture!  If you have couches, chairs, tables, framed high school portraits, etc. that you’re not using, please let me know.

7) EMAIL UPDATES: Someone said they subscribed to email updates, but wasn’t receiving them (maybe check if the email is considered Spam and is going to a Junk Folder).  If this is a problem for anyone else, please email me.

8) FEATURED ARTICLES: We’d like our website to represent the heart of all our URC family, so if you’d like to write an article for our website on anything related to our ministry, please talk to Ray.

8) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: SARAH KWON

9) DEVOTIONS: 2 Chronicles 14-19 (Kings of Judah, Jehoshaphat)

See y’all soon!
