Union Weekly 3/15/09: URC vs. Wild

Hi Gang,

This photo is by one of my faves, Ansel Adams, and it’s of the Half Dome @ Yosemite.  After just reserving campsites there for our summer trip, I can picture us climbing this monster rock in August.  I think this is a season where many of us face our own personal Half Domes – whether it be relational conflict, financial/employment worries, or spiritual dryness -  and like the Yosemite one, we feel 50-50 on whether we’ll make it.  Let’s remember that Jesus IS praying for our protection from these struggles, and when His prayers are answered, we will stand on the summit.  Read John 17 if you need the reminder…

1) MARCH MADNESS: THIS THURSDAY @ 9:20 AM.  Not the conventional church announcement, but hey, there’s no gambling, and maybe this will be one way we can de-stress and hang out together over the next couple of weeks.  You should’ve received an invite to our Yahoo! group, so get your picks in by this Thursday!

2) CG: THIS FRIDAY @ 7 PM @ TAE/SARA’S.  Remember, from now on, every CG will be @ 7 PM, and it’ll always be a potluck :) .  As we continue to study Jesus and the Twelve, we’ll look @ Judas’ life and maybe find that he wasn’t so different from us… URC pool tourney #428 will follow.

3) SPRING CRAFT BOUTIQUE: THIS SATURDAY FROM 9 AM-4 PM @ Brea Community Center (695 E. Madison Way).  This is the second craft fair for Angela in two weeks, but this is the big one.  “Unique crafts, seasonal and year round gifts and decor, wearable art, jewelry, florals, baby items, tasty goodies and much more from over 250 vendors!!”  $1 admission.

4) SPORTS SUNDAY: THIS SUNDAY @ 2 PM.  Last time, URC bailed for lack of people, and the Youth were a bit disappointed.  This time, we should have enough, so bring your gear and your game.

5) YOSEMITE TRIP: 8/2-8/5 (Sun-Wed).  First, an apology.  I wanted to book 7/29-8/1 (Wed-Sat), but I totally forgot to reserve the sites last Sunday @ 7 AM.  As I was hiking with the kids today, I suddenly remembered, but the campsites were all booked for those dates.  I’m really sorry to anyone that won’t be able to go as a result of the change.  On the flip side, it’s still three weekdays and one weekend day, we won’t be rushed to come back for church (especially for leaders in the worship service), and leaving Sunday might be easier, since we’ll be together anyway.  I booked enough for 30 people, which should accommodate all of us.

There WILL be drinking water (not potable, hahaha), fire rings, flushing toilets, and sinks in the bathrooms, so we’ll be living in luxury compared to last year.  Maybe best of all, we won’t have to carry our gear for a 1/2 mile.  The Youth Retreat is about two weeks later.  PLEASE let me know if the dates will be a problem for you, or I’ll assume we’re good to go.

6) SCRIPTURE READING/OFFERING: Deacon Tae Kim

7) DEVOTIONS: 2 Chronicles 19-24 (Kings of Judah).

Praying for all of you…
