Union Weekly 2/22/09: Downstairs
Hi Everyone,
Sending this out early because we’ll gather two times early this week. The most important is Ash Wednesday, and I encourage you to reflect on the downstairs path that Jesus took, and how we might be able to walk downward toward humility with Him. In the Christ poem of Philippians 2, we saw His attitude was restraint, His position was that of a servant, and His action was obedience. The beginning of the poem calls us to imitate Him…

2) TNF: THIS TUESDAY (tomorrow) @ 7 PM @ DAVE & BUSTER’S @ THE BLOCK (20 City Blvd. G, Ste. 1, Orange, CA 92868). This week, we’ll meet Tuesday, not Thursday, to eat and play games. Angela’s husband, James, works there, so we may be able to get a private room to eat in (THANK YOU!).
3) ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE: THIS WEDNESDAY @ 7 PM @ ENGLISH CHAPEL. We’ll enter the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday with songs, Scripture, and prayer that will lead us to confession, repentance, and fasting. Before you come, please consider fasting something for the next 46 days, until Easter that will humble you and help you imitate Christ.
4) NT WRIGHT: THIS THURSDAY @ 7 PM @ LAKE AVE. CHURCH. The Bishop of Durham, one of the most respected Christian thinkers in the world and author of over 40 books, will be speaking in our neck of the woods. 5) CITY OF ANGELS FILM FESTIVAL: THIS WEEKEND @ THE DIRECTORS’ GUILD. Independent films with Christian themes/discussions, and for most of them, the directors/producers will be there for Q & A. btw, i’m so jealous that you guys are going to that film festival. i went a couple of times when i used to live out there around 2000-2001. i loved it!
Thanks for being my only fan on the pics. At least I have one satisfied customer. Man, I wish I could go to some of those films with you. I need your film skills to break ‘em down for me! Instead, my comments will just amount to, “Whoa,” “Cool,” and “Bogus”: Basically, what Bill and Ted say.
